First introduced in 1969, the Speedtimer marked a milestone in Seiko innovation.
The Datsun of Nissan Motor Corporation, Japan's leading sports car brand, was also launched in 1969. In 1971, the Datsun 240Z, also known as the Fairlady Z, bearing the Seiko logo as its sponsor, won the East African Safari Rally, one of the world's toughest races.
In 1969, Seiko introduced the Speedtimer, the world's first automatic chronograph equipped with a vertical clutch and column wheel,
two features that greatly improved the measurement of elapsed time.
The Datsun 240Z emulates the Seiko Speedtimer's style, durability, and reliability.
The Speedtimer SSC957 watch retains many design elements of the original DATSUN 240Z rally car: the color scheme, the typography of the instrument panels, and the DATSUN logo on the dial. The three-dimensional emblem of the winning car is engraved on the caseback, along with the limited edition number. The bezel is made of two-tone aluminum and incorporates a tachymeter. The steel bracelet adds a touch of elegance to its sporty design.
